BTS Boy Band

BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan), also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a seven-member South Korean boy band that was formed in 2010 and debuted in 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment. The group's name, BTS, stands for the Korean expression Bangtan Sonyeondan, literally meaning "Bulletproof Boy Scouts". the name signifies the group's desire "to block out stereotypes, criticisms, and expectations that aim on adolescents like bullets". In July 2017, BTS announced that their name would also stand for "Beyond the Scene" as part of their new brand identity. This extended their name to mean "growing youth BTS who is going beyond the realities they are facing, and going forward."

Song Concept

Originally a hip hop group, their musical style has evolved to include a wide range of genres. Their lyrics, often focused on personal and social commentary, touch on the themes of mental health, troubles of school-age youth and coming of age, loss, the journey towards loving oneself, and individualism. Their work also often references literature and psychological concepts and includes an alternative universe storyline.

Fandom "ARMY"

BTS fans, ARMY was established as BTS' fandom name on July 9, 2013, soon after the release of the band's first single, “2 Cool 4 Skool.” The word is an acronym for “Adorable Representative M.C. For Youth.

Achievements

BTS has received many awards and honors, including 33 Mnet Asian Music Awards, 29 Melon Music Awards, 24 Golden Disc Awards, 20 Seoul Music Awards, six Korean Music Awards, 19 Gaon Chart Music Awards, nine Billboard Music Awards, six American Music Awards, and six MTV Video Music Awards. BTS is also the first group in history to win Top Song Sales Artist at the Billboard Music Awards, as well as five consecutive wins for Top Social Artist. Having sold over 20.3 million albums on the Gaon Music Chart, BTS are the best-selling artist in South Korean history, surpassing Shin Seung-hun's record of 17 million albums. In South Korea, BTS hold five multi-million albums and four platinum streaming singles. In addition to being the first Korean group to receive an RIAA certification, BTS has one double platinum single, two platinum albums, three platinum singles, two gold singles, and one gold album in the United States. In Japan, BTS is the first male foreign act to receive a million certification for a single, they also have two multi-platinum singles, two multi-platinum albums, two platinum albums and four gold albums in the country. BTS are also the first Korean group to receive certifications in the United Kingdom, with two silver singles, one gold single, five silver album certifications, and three gold album certifications.
